Our Story
Start
Enterprise Systems was founded in June 2004 by John Court, a year after graduating and with 12 months experience as an IT Manager.
Building Lasting Solutions
Offering general IT support was a good way to meet clients who were also interested in custom software, and one of our early Java-based equipment servicing database systems from 2005 is still in operation to this day.
Explosive Growth
We didn’t really start growing until 2006, when we started building LLUMS (Local Loop Unbundling Management System) for Openreach. Initially used by a small Aberdeen-based team it grew to support thousands of concurrent users UK-wide supporting LLU as well as Next Generation Access. The team’s ability to rapidly deliver new requirements and to iterate quickly (Agile) was the key to its success, especially when compared with config-heavy COTS products released on quarterly cycles.
Adapting to Change
Our team grew to its peak in 2017 with 12 full time staff, and around that time our 11 year(!) engagement with Openreach came to an end with the offshoring of software development. We responded with a focus on building our own software and with expanding our focus on the other sectors we were working in, specifically Oil and Gas, Time Tracking, Property Management and Document Management.
Improving Software Development
From 2018 to 2023 we refined our approach to building custom software in outsourced and augmented teams. We have applied the lessons that we learned from working with SaaS products at various scales and stages to our custom software engagements as well as to our own products.
20 Years Strong
We start our 20th anniversary year in 2024 with a team of nine experienced engineers, clearly defined values and a mission that applies as much today as it did in 2004: “Working together to build software that solves our clients’ problems”
